Another interview I had to do

The company that I use for on-demand publishing emailed me a newsletter, which contained a promotional interview with a so-called indie author. While reading this, I became jealous that I myself was not the one being interrogated; so I stole all the questions, erased the other authors answers & provided my own. [To be fair, here’s the original.]

INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR BRYAN RAY

At the stroke of modernity, right on the central point of the Midwestern U.S., the author Bryan Ray was born. He claims that his books are the future of Elite Literature. We had the pleasure of interviewing Bryan about his creative process and how hes managed to prevent his books from contracting a readership.

Hi, Bryan! First things first, could you tell us a little about yourself and what genre you usually write?

Im untimely. Thats all you need to know about me. And I have no genre. When I began to write, my aim was to defy the concept of genre; and I have faithfully achieved this goal with all of my works.

When did you start publishing and how many books have you published?

I began to self-publish my writings in 2012 AD, and now I think that my bibliography has more than three books.

What is your typical writing process (although most writing processes are far from typical!)?

To be honest, I just sit down and do it. Im a machine gun, blasting out ten thousand words at a time. Then I do a single revision, where I cross out all the adjectives. Thats it.

You have several books that were published as physical volumes, with ink on paper, and youve recently starting publishing eBooks as well—

Thats incorrect: I have never published an eBook.

Really? Oh! . . . well, I hope you can still reply to what I wanted to ask, which is: Do you have any advice to authors looking to expand their publishing portfolio?

Yes, my advice is: Stop trying to do that. Take a nap instead.

OK, next question . . . How do you stay inspired?

Inspiration is inconsequential; I ignore it. (They told me, before I was born, that all I owe this world is one humiliating death. So Ill pay that, whenever they see fit. Im here to cooperate; I do NOT want to return.)

If you could go back and tell your pre-published self one thing about the writing and publishing process, what would it be?

Dear pre-published self: Start smoking immediately. I can assure you that remaining a non-smoker was definitely not worth it.

Let’s talk marketing. What are some tips you have for getting your name and work out there?

I dont do marketing — I am hid.
