Flamingos and Furnaces

Flamingos are a type of animal. They are shockingly tall; they have long, skinny legs; they drink water from manmade cisterns; and they enjoy practicing the act of balancing. Hunger is not something they need to fear, because someone will always feed them — behold: humankind, for its own survival, depends on flamingos. These creatures are pink in hue, and they are covered with feathers. They do not ever venture outdoors during the wintertime. They have tiny eyes, and they emit haunting songs for unknown reasons. With their sharp-lipped beak, they are able to chop seeds. They possess bodies. Even the waste they produce is beautiful.

Part 2: Furnaces

The furnace is an extremely choice invention. It generates a great deal of warmth, which can be useful in inclement weather. Fueled by gas, it can reach temperatures hotter than a yule log. Ask yourself if you’ve ever seen anything so self-assured. When my hands are cold, it warms them up. And, after storing my nuts in the freezer to forestall rancidity, the furnace thaws them out so that I am able to cook with them. Furnaces are known to roar when they are in heat — this is evident to everyone who has ears to hear with: One must not dispute scientific facts.
