A great war had broken out among the plants. There were leaves everywhere; bark was being bruised, branches broken, and roots ripped out. Massive oaks made the willows weep, while Douglas firs were wreaking tremendous havoc . . .
But then, all the plants stopped short and said to themselves: “What are we doing, slaughtering one another — we’re only ruining our own lives! The real enemy is that one who keeps walking through our forests with an ax and chopping us down.” Then they all looked over at the lumberjack, and, after a moment of resolve, they attacked en masse.
