I wish that my neighborhood had a piazza where all of us neighbors could go & chat with each other whenever we want. Like an old town square; a gathering space for the community. As it is, there's no center of our neighborhood; there are just rows of houses with wide streets running between them. Cars pass by constantly, but one never hears any human beings conversing. Sometimes you hear loud voices from car radios giving opinions. But I like the idea of a place near one's house where one can socialize with other neighbors; & when one sees them there, one can be sure that they are in the mood to talk: for that's why they came.
This is different from walking up to someone's house and ringing the doorbell; for you never know if you're disturbing whoever answers — & most of the time, people don't even open their door, because they fear that any unexpected visitor might be a religious proselytizer, a political canvasser, or some other swindler soliciting a product that is unwanted. No one would think that a friendly neighbor would pay them a random call just to philosophize.
I'm now imagining how stimulating it would be to meet people at the neighborhood piazza. Every time that you go there, there would be new neighbors mixing & mingling; and the topics of potential discussion would be limitless.
