Three, two, one: blast off. Wow, I can see my house from up here in this rocketship.
Now we astronauts are in the silence of space, where there are no police officers. We did a countdown from ten to zero and then fired ourselves away from Earth in a cannon. It was a good commencement. I like the seating in our shuttle’s cockpit; even though I’m strapped in tight, it’s fairly comfortable.
I’m one of the many pilots, so I man the fuselage. Ooh, and I almost forgot: we need to pack for our adventure! — So I open up my suitcase and throw in two white shirts, my nice blue bib, and my linens. Also I include the pillow that I am sewing.
“Where are you off to, at this hour?” asks my mom.
“I am going to outer space, mom, I already told you,” I say. “Now you’re letting a draft in, so please shut the pod bay doors.”
