The Squid Essay, Part 9

Now the giant squid is enraged because the sun reappeared, and God flew down like a bat and shot lightning bolts at its eyeball. But look: the giant squid sprays God’s wings with inky cream. Now both monsters are weak and on the verge of death: blood is trickling out of the beak of God, and the giant squid is leaking ooze.

However, just then, the whole sky turns baby blue — but it isn’t clean air: it’s bazillions of cephalopods.

“My babies!” cries the giant squid; and they war against God. The countless newborn octopuses are flying and squirming and shooting ink into God’s orifices.

After the battle, the grass is devastated. Speaking as a narrator of epics, I’ve never seen so many holes left in the lawn. Now, when the giant squid gets up and flies into heaven, God remains on the earth and cannot revive.

[PLOT SUMMARY: The squidling army attacked the God of the Mountain, along with Chaos, Ocean, and the Primeval Dragons. The powers of darkness coupled with and thus conquered the Mountain God, who was utterly destroyed.]
