Alewife

Alewives are what I commonly use for bait. They die real easy. Plus they’re greasy and fishy. Four inches long and one inch wide, with a dot on their side. They’re good for catching redfish, speckled trout, flounder, king-size mackerel and bluefish. Also hardtail live shrimps. I would say that they even catch monkeys and chimpanzees, but that’s too jokey — I’m not trying to be funny and tell jokes here: I’m trying to give you trustworthy advice.

Yeah, the big ones, they’ll come and get it, if you’re fishing with alewives. I would ask, honestly: What CAN’T you catch!? Anything will eat alewives. Man, they swim in the big fish school, and they’re reflective and totally smooth. You can see ’em from a whole mile off. You need a heavy net with a rapid cast — they’re really fast and hard to scoop. But I gotta go now — here comes Matt.
