Spanish Mackerel

The best kind of ocean fish that I wish I could catch is a Spanish mackerel. No, the one that I want is not colored gold with dark spots everywhere; it’s silver blue with a black spot and yellow spots on its belly. Spanish mackerels are like muskellunges, in that they’re fiercely aggressive. They also have sharp tusks like a musky. They’re the wildest fighting fish to kick up dust in a heap. To catch them, I use a bait fish called alewife. Yes, ma’am, you can catch any type of fish with alewife. Alewife is where it’s at. I once knew a Cuban guy who fished for days on end with a gigantic cast net, and these super fine Spanish mackerels kept biting his line.
