(Cont.)
Now the multitudes of workers who had escaped from the Empire were amassed there in the wilderness of the sticks, out on the edge of the desert plains. And the goat-eyed wild man stood before them, on the rough border of the Great Basin Desert, just outside of Las Vegas. And he delivered the following speech:
“Wayfarers, give ear. Now that you are all back on track again, I want to offer some guidance, so that we can continue our tour into Eldorado. For, beyond those first few spies that we sent out, your groups have not yet even seen the Emerald City! So here is the plan of the volcano of potential:
“Once we have passed over the Great Basin shrub-steppe and entered the lands of the ivy leaguers, as I instructed you before, be not afraid of the inhabitants, neither the collegians nor the staff: mix and mingle with them freely; let them show to you their fine pictures, and their statues; then return the favor by showing them our portable museum, the ark, and what we keep inside it. Do not attempt to dispossess the people, and they will befriend you. Lodge with them; even establish permanent residence, if you are so inclined. For you may remain in any dominion that we visit, or choose to continue with the tour. Likewise, any natives encountered along the way are equally free to join our pilgrimage. Think of a melting pot, with all nations becoming one molten image.
“Those who dwell in each region shall share their land and resources with all of us, as we shall share our treasures and labor with them: each in accordance with his needs. Let us all be of one mind, holding ever as our highest aim the magic of mutual benefit; in other words, harmonious friendship. Let no man say that any of the things which he possesses is his own; but let us have all things common. Among us travelers, there shall be no lack: for as many as are possessors of lands or houses shall sell them, and bring their prices, and lay them down before the Tabernacle of Potential: and distribution shall be made unto all.”
This was the last testament and judgment, which the Volcano delivered unto the escaped workforce of the Empire, in the wilderness of the sticks, out on the edge of the desert plains, before the encampment advanced over the rough border of the Great Basin shrub-steppe and into all the lands beyond.

Then the goat-eyed wild man said unto Moses: “It cannot be postponed any longer. Behold, your book has reached its ending. I explained before that you will need to return to the earth: The time has come to perform this ritual. Now, are you ready to depart, once and for all? There shall be no turning back from this. Alright, go and fetch Yeshua the Zealot, and present yourselves in the Tabernacle of Potential. I’ll meet you there. We will perform a ceremony, to transfer your title before witnesses.”
So Moses and Yeshua the Zealot went and stood in the Tabernacle of Potential. And the Volcano appeared amid thick dark smoke and fire. And, with the rest of the multitudes watching, the wild man placed his hands on Moses and Yeshua, and he said: “Be strong and of good courage. We will all of us continue our adventure together: I shall remain living among and traveling with the masses of working people; yet, if any special chore needs to be done, I will now call upon Yeshua to perform it, whereas in the past I had always been known to call upon Moses.”
Then the audience applauded. And there, before the multitudes, the Volcano presented a tablet of commemoration to Moses, written with the finger of god. And its message read as follows:
Dearest Sir,
The liquidation of your fleshly tabernacle, an event as unexpected as it was unfortunate, has required us to deprive ourselves of your services.
We take this opportunity to pay tribute to the work, the intelligence, the probity and devotion that you have demonstrated when defending our interest by way of the positions you have filled for us over the last forty years, in particular as director of our offices outside the Empire.
With thanks, we remain
Yours very sincerely,THE VOLCANO OF POTENTIAL,c/o THE WORKFORCE OF THE WORLD
Then the wild man guided Moses up from the wilderness of the sticks unto the top of Mount Pisgah, which overlooks Las Vegas and the surrounding areas of India. And the Volcano showed him, one last time, all the land of Oz, unto Emerald City, and all the legendary “Promised Land,” including Golden-Age Hollywood, and the fields of the Penn Quakers, over to the Dartmouthians, up to the Harvardites and the Yalies, plus Hawaii and Alaska, past expanding Eldorado, even unto the Happy Isles on the utmost sea. Also back to the rolling plain of the valley of Eden, unto the kingdom of palm trees, Florida.
And the goat-eyed wild man said to Moses: “This is the planet. It may be hard for you to tell, because of your current size and perspective, but its shape is ovoid: it shares the quintessence of a transparent eyeball. To repopulate it, I swore on my life to your ancestor Abram that I would bless him with untold offspring; and I signed the same contract with your immortal mummy Joseph. I am sure that I keep on file similar deals with others, too, who preceded you, and whose names you do not even know. (For beings represent you from the Beyond whom you could never perceive nor fathom.) Anyway, for the second time now, you have surveyed all the places that our carnival will be traveling through. Have a nice trip down to Sheol.”
So Moses the friend of the Volcano died there, while his captain was repeatedly saluting him. [Footnote: this refers to a moment from the funeral scene that concludes the 2013 film Wrong Cops.] And the wild man buried him with his own bare hands, in the earth, under one of the mountains of Peor: but no one knows where his sepulcher is, to this day.
And the memory of Moses will always have a special place in the heart of the Volcano, on account of what befell at Fallout Rock.
