My Perpetual Motion Machine

I built a machine that is powered solely by mullein. And it’s engineered so that the mullein grows naturally inside the fuel tank, so you never need to fill it: the flowering plants continuously sprout up and provide enough energy to keep the thing running. This machine is transparent and permeable to sunlight, because I made it out of blue-green glass. I remember the first time I turned it on:

After flipping the switch, there was a very loud hum, and the machine produced a great cloud of thick smoke. Out of this cloud emerged a duck: He had silver feathers, and his little webbed feet looked like a pair of “Chuck Taylor” shoes, which had been color-dyed basketball-orange.

This duck hovered in midair for a spell, staring at me, and his eyes looked mean. Then he informed me that he is the genie of my contraption. I told him to make himself at home, and he flapped down onto the floor and asked my name. “I’m the famous author Bryan Ray,” I said. The creature seemed impressed. (When I returned the question, he answered simply: “Duck”.) So we became friends and used our machine to rob the World Bank.
